Canadian Media Guild backs ACTRA in labour action

The Canadian Media Guild supports the strike action that members of ACTRA have been forced to take in order to defend their rights as creative performers in Canada.

“Film and TV actors in this country contribute everything they have to this very important part of Canadian culture,” says Lise Lareau, the national president of the Canadian Media Guild. “They deserve to be paid properly for their work no matter where it appears, whether in the cinema or on TV, cell phone, internet, or the next thing.

“It is important to fight against the notion of the internet as a place for free work.”

The Canadian Media Guild supports the efforts of Canadian film and TV actors, and their union, to act collectively to advance their interests.

Where producers have signed continuiation letters with ACTRA and productions are not struck, our members will continue to work as usual, including on The Rick Mercer Report, This Hour Has 22 Minutes and the Royal Canadian Air Farce.
