This week CBC/Radio-Canada announced a plan to enter into what it calls a “content partnership” with The Weather Network. This is part of the Corporation’s plans that it announced last spring, as it continues to reduce and reorganize due to successive and severe budget cuts.
The deal with The Weather Network is disappointing in what it symbolizes: another lost service from Canada’s national public broadcaster. CBC/Radio-Canada has a long and proud history of providing Canadians with detailed weather reporting.
We will be reviewing the details of this announcement, with a view to proposing options in order to reduce the impact on Guild members. We will share our thoughts once we have completed the review.
