CBC/Radio-Canada has suffered enough neglect by Parliament. When federal election candidates come knocking on your door, ask them whether they support more money for the CBC. The Guild is urging candidates to commit to:
– an increase in government funding by 1 cent per day per Canadian to ensure that CBC/Radio-Canada is responsive and relevant to the diversity that is Canada
– a return of local, hour-long suppertime TV newscasts and new local radio stations in underserved communities (eg. Kelowna, Saskatoon, Hamilton, Kingston, Kitchener-Waterloo/London)
Vague words of support are not enough. We call on Canada’s political parties to make a concrete commitment to renewing CBC/Radio-Canada.
