After promising to “maintain or increase” funding to the CBC after the last election, Heritage Minister James Moore has some explaining to do. How is it the overall budget cut is 6.9% for federal departments and a whopping 10% for the CBC? What happened between Moore’s comforting words a year ago and today’s crushing blow (or, as Tyee editor David Beers calls it, a sucker punch)? And this 115 million dollar swipe even in the face of repeated polls showing strong public support for the public broadcasting. We are left perplexed, disappointed, and angry and will be demanding answers.
