NDP Leader Tom Mulcair opposes selling the CBC building

After months of encouraging  all political parties to support more funding for CBC/Radio-Canada, we were encouraged to see the NDP speaking in support publicly at the Toronto Broadcast Centre today.

Thomas Mulcair reiterated his party’s commitment to restore the $115-million in funding that was cut from CBC/Radio-Canada over three budget cycles.

Mulcair also indicated that the NDP would ensure the CBC building does not have to be sold.

He committed to putting in place, an independent and objective nomination process to get the best Canadians for the jobs of CBC president and board of directors, “Canadians  deserve to have champions for their public broadcaster, people who will stand up and fight for the CBC,” he said.

CMG continues to rally political and public support for CBC, a priority for us in this election year.

We are excited to help with a concert planned for Ottawa next week on  March 9.    Chris Hadfiled will join major Canadian artists and personalities at the National  Arts Centre in Ottawa. This event “For The Love of CBC – Pour l’amour de Radio-Canada” is now sold out (900 seats), but you can watch it live online.

Please encourage your family and friends to help make CBC/Radio-Canada an issue in this election.

Carmel,

Carmel Smyth,
CMG National President
