More than a hundred CBC supporters held a rally in Ottawa to ask that the CBC Board stand up and speak out for the public broadcaster.
The rally was held in front of the CBC building as CBC board members met inside to discuss more cuts to the public broadcaster.
There’ve been rallies across the country from Cape Breton to Nunavut, Toronto, Ottawa, Fredericton, Victoria, Thunder Bay. Canadians are saying they value the CBC in their communities for information, culture, sports, entertainment, and they are asking their elected officials to fund CBC/Radio-Canada at appropriate levels so it can continue to deliver the radio, television and online services they rely on.
CMG is urging the CBC board to stop the cuts that are already causing harm to CBC and to join the union in pushing the government to better fund the national public broadcaster.
