What factual TV workers are earning in Canada in 2014

In our latest survey of factual TV workers, we got enough data to provide weekly pay ranges for five job categories and daily pay ranges for three:

Weekly_Graphic_Finalx2Daily_Graphic_Finalx2We hope workers can use these pay ranges to help in their negotiations with production companies. Information is power!

There is no evidence in this year’s data of wage differences based on gender or race. However, the data suggests that there are male- and female-dominated jobs in factual TV. For example, 86% of those who reported working as production co-ordinator/secretary identified as women, as did 82% of production managers/line producers, 72% of writers/story editors and 67% of the field producers/segment producers. On the other hand, 100% of respondents who reported working as camera operators, sound technicians and composers identified as men, as did 83% of those who reported working as editors and directors of photography.

The Canadian Media Guild conducted the online survey of 195 workers over the summer.
