What’s it really like to work in Canadian reality TV?

We’ve heard some bad stories from individual workers in factual TV about long hours, unpaid work, lack of benefits or sick days, gender discrimination and bullying. They generally work as contractors and freelancers on reality, lifestyle and competition shows in Canada (eg. Top Chef, Chopped, Big Brother, Amazing Race, Canada’s Worst Driver and Property Virgins). MediaTech Commons has now launched a survey to get a better idea of the big picture – and the standards – across the industry.

Do you work in factual TV or do you know someone who does? Please take 5 or 10 minutes to fill out the online survey and share it around. The more people working in the industry who fill it out, the better the picture will emerge about what is going on. Then we can work together to address the problems.
