The dispute over the expense allowance paid to employees who worked at the Athens’ Olympics was finally scheduled and will be heard by arbitrator Pamela Chapman on March 21, 2005. The hearing will continue in April, if necessary.
We had wanted this issue resolved before employees left for Athens. Unfortunately, the CBC was able to adjourn the hearing scheduled for July 2004.
The CBC has advised us that it is taking the position that employees are not entitled to grieve the application of the Travel Policy. According to that logic, employees would have no recourse if CBC decided to pay nothing to employees required to travel to work outside their location.
