CMG applies to strengthen its bargaining unit at CBC

The Canadian Media Guild filed an application this week to add more than 300 CBC employees to our bargaining unit. Most of the employees are currently represented by the Association of Professionals and Supervisors (APS).

The employees include sales representatives, marketing and revenue analysts, transmission officers, resource coordinators, IT analysts and programmers, new media workers, as well as Human Resources administrators.

These jobs don’t belong in a bargaining unit for supervisors and professionals such as engineers. The best way to make sure that people’s rights are strong and respected is to have a single bargaining that represents all frontline employees.

The Syndicat canadien de la fonction publique (CUPE) has filed an application to represent similar employees at CBC/Radio-Canada in Quebec. The applications are to be decided by the Canada Industrial Relations Board. The Guild is awaiting a formal response to our application from APS and CBC management.

For more information, contact the Guild (guild@interlog.com) at 416-591-5333 or 1-800-465-4149.
