CMG-CBC Branch Town Hall: Workday and 1.5% salary raise

CMG-CBC Branch Town Hall on Workday Issues
Your CBC Branch Executive wants to hear from you on the new CBC Workday system, at a union Town Hall on Tuesday, April 18 at 7 p.m. ET  – The Zoom link has been emailed to you .
We have been in constant communication with management since before its rollout, and have pushed for some modifications.  This is your chance to voice concerns and hear what we know so far, and to help decide what our next steps should be. If you can’t make this meeting time, please send your Workday concerns along to wendy@cmg.ca so that your voice is still heard.

2023 – 1.5% Wage Increase
Our current collective agreement allows for negotiations to occur each year only if the Treasury Board releases funding to CBC with anything other than 1.5% as a wage increase.  The Treasury Board is still in negotiations with PSAC, the union representing most federal employees, and is not likely to provide rates to other Crown corporations until that negotiation is concluded. The last offer they made to one of the PSAC bargaining units was 9% over three years. Our negotiations on a 2023 wage increase can not occur until the Treasury Board funding is released to CBC.

The Corporation has decided to give CMG employees at CBC/Radio-Canada a 1.5% wage increase starting April 1, 2023, despite the fact that the union has made the case that our real earnings are eroding as the cost of living soars.  We asked that it at least reflect the reality that inflation in Canada has been between 6-8% over the past year.

The union reminded management that it has kept money that it normally would have contributed to our pensions for the last year.  It’s disappointing that as we near the next round of collective bargaining, CBC is unwilling to consider a wage increase that reflects the true cost of living at this point. The CMG looks forward to more productive conversations with management once the Treasury Board has provided its funding announcement to CBC.

Committee Updates
CBC Branch national union committees have been populated.  A big thank you to all who put their names forward to serve!  We have one spot left on the Job Evaluation Committee, so please send an email to naomi.cmgto@gmail.com by May 1, 2023 if you’re interested.
