A group of 16 employees at CJRC, a private radio station in Gatineau, Quebec, has joined the ranks of the Canadian Media Guild. The Canada Industrial Relations Board recently approved our bargaining certificate.
“We are very pleased to welcome the CJRC employees into the CMG family,” says Lise Lareau, national president of the Canadian Media Guild. “This unit brings a new dimension to the CMG, that of private radio, and will expand our perspective.”
The employees, formerly members of UFCW Canada, were seeking a union with expertise in the media sector, according to interim unit president Jean-Marc Dufresne.
The unit has just ratified a three-year tentative agreement with Corus Quebec that includes 2.5% annual salary increases, a $600 signing bonus and the creation of a group RRSP. The agreement is retroactive to 2005 and will expire on August 31, 2008.
In mid-April, the all-news station will move to the FM band to improve its prospects in the Outaouais radio market.
The new Guild unit will hold elections soon to select an executive.
