Several CBC employees have contacted the CMG recently about being denied special leave.
Special leave is meant to allow employees to deal with personal matters that may keep them away from work, including illness in their immediate family, moving, marriage and appearing in court for a divorce. The provision allows employees not to use their annual leave to deal with these kinds of matters.
Managers have told some employees that they can’t take special leave unless the reason for the leave was “unforeseen.” The Guild believes that the managers’ response is not valid. The union is seeking a clarification from the industrial relations department and will file a grievance if necessary.
In the meantime, if you have been denied a special leave, please talk to a member of your local Guild executive and send the details to the national office at [email protected].
