Another 15 positions are being cut from the transmission department at CBC due
to federal budget cuts and the shutdown of analog TV. This completes the 60 job
cuts announced in 2009 and also affects 7 employees hired on a temporary basis
since 2009 to replace employees who took voluntary retirement packages. The
number of CMG members affected will be announced next week.
CBC management has also noted the strain on the department of trying to absorb
the budget cuts while implementing the analog TV and Radio-Canada International
(RCI) shutdown. The Guild collective agreement includes measures to deal with
unreasonable workload. If you have any concerns, please contact a Guild
representative in your area as soon as possible.
