Marika Jorgensen, a long-time CBC employee and union activist, passed away after a year-long battle with cancer ten days ago in Vancouver.
Marika was local CUPE president in Vancouver in the 1990s, before the merger with the Canadian Media Guild. She was long active in the union and committed to helping her colleagues.
“Marika will be remembered for her hard work on behalf of CBC employees in Vancouver,” says CMG Staff Representative Glenn Gray. “It is very sad that her life was cut short by cancer. She will be missed.”
A memorial service took place last week in Vancouver. Her family has asked that donations be made in Marika’s name to the Canadian Cancer Society.
