Help recognize Temporary Workers at CBC

There are hundreds of people stuck in temporary jobs, working on every show, shift and platform at CBC.

This can go on for years. And is in fact getting worse as the corporation replaces permanent work with temporary hires.

The union is fighting to stop this, and to increase awareness of the challenges faced by up to 1,000 of our colleagues stuck in long term precarious work.

Please join a ZOOM call to honour their commitment to the work we do at CBC with a long service award.

When: Tomorrow, Wednesday, June 29 at 7 p.m. ET
The Zoom coordinates were emailed to you.

This is the first event of many the union will hold to draw attention to this issue.

“These recipients represent the many temporary workers whose service the corporation refused to recognize the way it does with permanent employees. We think that’s wrong. So we wanted to share our appreciation for all they do every day but under precarious conditions.”
Kim Trynacity , CBC Branch president

“There are currently up to 1,000 temporary workers, working 100,000 hours a month at CBC (at Radio-Canada in Québec, it’s over 1,100 temporary workers working an average of 83,000 hours a month), so clearly the ongoing work exists. Why would the public broadcaster, a media leader, create a two-tiered system where so many are treated unfairly.”
Carmel Smyth, CMG president
