Your union needs you! The Guild’s local executive is looking for volunteers to join the Local Joint Health & Safety Committee.
The committee is made up of union members and CBC management. It develops policies and monitors health and safety issues, conducts inspections in the building, and addresses complaints. The committee meets the last Thursday of every month. The deadline for applications is 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5.
Please send your submission to CMG president Tony Germin (tony.germin @cbc.ca) with “H&S Committee Application” in the subject line, and include the following information:
-Your name, work location and contact info
-Why you are interested in joining the committee
-Why you are suited for the role, with examples
Applicants are also encouraged to read Article 77 of the Collective Agreement and Part II of the Canada Labour Code.
The local executive committee will make the final selection. Current committee members are free to re-apply, and if you are not selected this time around, your application will be kept on file for any future vacancies or sub-committee work.
Here is more information on the role of the Health & Safety committee members:
– Participate in the development of health and safety policies and programs
– Participate in the development and monitoring of a program for the prevention of work place hazards, according to regulations, that also provides for the health and safety education of employees
– Deal with matters raised by members and those referred to the committee or to a health and safety representative
– Participate in inquires, studies, investigation and inspections as deemed necessary
-Monitor data on work accidents, injuries and health hazards
-Participate in the development and monitoring of a program, if any, for the provision of personal protective equipment, clothing and devices or materials
-Participate in the planning of the implementation, and in the actual implementation, of changes that may affect health and safety, including work processes and procedures.
