Join the Pay Equity committee at CBC

Your union is looking for two members to join the Joint Pay Equity committee at CBC. This committee includes representatives from management and the CMG. It meets four times per year.

The committee is mandated under the Collective Agreement to address disparities in remuneration between men and women. This includes all forms of payments, such as additional remuneration and placement on the salary scales. Pay equity is defined under human rights legislation as a gender issue and means equal pay for work of equal value.

The Guild encourages applications from Aboriginal peoples, visible minorities, people with disabilities, women, francophones and persons of all sexual orientation and gender identity. Please self-identify if you feel comfortable doing so.

Applicants are encouraged to check the Collective Agreement for more details about what this committee does.

The committee usually meets in Toronto and holds telephone conferences. The Guild and management make the arrangements for paid time off from work and travel, if necessary, to attend the meetings. If you are interested, please send an email to info@cmg.ca and explain why you would like to join the committee. The deadline is December 9, 2009

Here’s what the Memorandum of Agreement says on Pay Equity:

10 PAY EQUITY
10.1
In order to ensure that pay equity concerns with respect to all forms of pay,
including wages and additional remuneration paid to employees doing the
same or similar types of work are addressed, the parties agree to maintain a
standing joint pay equity committee.
10.2
While the Union and its members reserve the right to refer pay equity issues to
the Human Rights Commission, the parties agree that sincere effort will be
made internally to identify and address these issues.
10.3
The committee will meet at least four times per year. The committee will select
co-chairs and the Corporation will ensure that the minutes of all meetings are
kept.
10.4
The Corporation will resource the committee with all relevant information in
order that the committee can complete its work.
