The Canadian Media Guild (CMG) continues to carefully monitor concerns regarding the COVID-19 situation. As a union, members’ health and safety is our top priority and we will be working with employers to ensure the utmost diligence in relation to this public health concern. We will keep you updated, but here are some answers to frequently asked questions:
How do I find out about the Corporation’s response to the COVID-19 situation?
The Corporation has published many guidelines on iO for employees about COVID-19. These guidelines are for all employees, regardless of your employment status. Please read them.
The situation is evolving quickly, and the CBC has committed to regular updates.

What do I do if I am sick?
If you are sick, stay home.
CBC offers short-term disability (STD) benefits to eligible employees – Please contact Staff Rep Enrico Di Fruscio (firstname.lastname@example.org) who is responsible for long- and short-term disability benefits at CMG.
Some physicians are asking patients not to go to their clinic with flu-like symptoms. If you cannot get a doctor’s note, please advise your manager.
Are there new processes for travel?
The Government of Canada has issued travel advisories . Please check this page regularly for updates.
If you are planning to travel abroad for business, have proper authorization from management before booking. For personal travel, including cruises, follow the recommendations of the Government of Canada, especially if travelling to an at-risk area. A reminder that many travel agencies, airlines and cruises allow for the cancellation or postponement of trips as a result of this situation.
Public health authorities or the Corporation may ask that you self-quarantine upon your return. The Corporation’s decision to pay you or not during quarantine is made on a case-by-case basis.
Teleworking could be an option, but this arrangement may not work for all employees, in all situations.
