National Job Evaluation Committee works through a range of issues arising from the new CBC management’s strategy

CMG’s National Job Evaluation Committee recently met with CBC management. We discussed a range of issues, most of which have emerged as a result of CBC management’s strategy of privileging production for digital platforms.

Here are details of specific issues we worked on :

*The question of compensation for Web Writers who had been working in that role prior to the development of the current Band 8 Web Writer job description (Reporter-Editor assignment) has been under discussion for many years. We expect that a resolution can be achieved in the next few weeks. More details will be released in a joint CBC-CMG communiqué once final agreement has been reached.

*The committee rated a new Technician-in-Charge job description as Band 11. This position incorporates some non-managerial duties formerly done by Ops Managers in some locations.

*CMG and the Corporation clarified problems with the posting of newly created positions. We are working to ensure all new positions have proper job descriptions and are correctly slotted into pay scales.

* With Reporter-Editors now carrying iPhones, some CMG members on the National Job Evaluation Committee worked on a subcommittee to look further into the various issues surrounding the use of iPhones across the country for visual newsgathering. Details of the agreement reached between CMG and the Corporation will be available soon, with an implementation date of November 1.

We encourage you to check CMG’s webpage on job evaluations at CBC/Radio Canada (http://www.cmg.ca/en/cbcradiocanada/job-evaluation/) for more information on the Job Evaluation process.
