Put your name forward to serve on CMG-CBC national committees

We have vacancies on four of our national joint committees.

Our committee work is currently done by Zoom, but we are gradually resuming in-person meetings which are held a few times a year.

Committee members receive paid time off from work to attend joint meetings with management, and travel costs for members outside Toronto are covered.

Please read the committee descriptions below and click here to apply.

National Joint Committee (NJC)

The NJC promotes good relations between the Corporation and its employees. Its purpose is to provide an avenue for strategic discussion on matters that affect employees in the bargaining unit and to flag potential problems. This committee plays a leading role in maintaining the union/management relationship.

Matters discussed at the Committee are of a national/corporate nature.

Skills desirable for committee members include:
-Broad and extensive experience in a range of union capacities, preferably at a national level.
Applicants are encouraged to check Article 18 of the Collective Agreement for more details.

To ensure better representation, preference will be given to candidates from equity-seeking groups in the West and the North.

National Joint Job Evaluation Committee

This joint committee is responsible for the implementation and the ongoing management of job evaluation, classification profiles and ratings.

The work of this committee is challenging, and requires sharp analytical skills and ongoing assessment of complex files.

To ensure better representation, preference will be given to applicants from equity-seeking groups in the Toronto region.

Transmission Health and Safety Committee

The purpose of this committee is to provide a forum to engage in constructive discussion with management regarding health and safety for employees in this specific work category and group.

Responsibilities include:
-Implementation and monitoring personal protective equipment
-Investigating and assessing exposure to hazardous substances
-Participation in inquiries, investigations, studies and inspections pertaining to the health and safety of members, including consultations with persons who are professionally or technically qualified to advise the Committee on those matters

Applicants for this committee must work in this field.

Joint Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (JEDI) committee

The JEDI committee includes CBC People & Culture Management, and representatives from CMG and other unions at CBC. The goal is to ensure the public broadcaster fulfills its obligations to hire and promote workers from the four designated groups:  women, members of visible minorities Indigenous peoples and persons with disabilities as defined under the  federal Employment Equity Act.

The deadline for applications is November 3, 2021

The CMG executive at CBC will make the final selection of members of each committee, based on the content of the applications. Please submit a separate application for each committee using our online form.

Your union needs you and your experience.
