We are aware of a report in the National Post that contains claims attributed to a CMG staffer, suggesting that our union is “dealing with multiple sexual harassment claims” at VICE Canada “right now.”
That is not the case.
We are, however, ready to support CMG members who come forward to report sexual harassment and we have processes to address such situations with the utmost concern and confidentially.
Both VICE management and the Canadian Media Guild have agreed that we have a responsibility to make sure that workers at VICE feel safe. That commitment is outlined in our collective agreement. Article 4 of the agreement is entitled “No Discrimination or Harassment.” ( http://www.cmg.ca/en/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Memorandum-of-Agreement-CMG-VICE.pdf )
To CMG members at VICE Canada: If you have experienced any form of harassment at work – or if you’ve witnessed it happening – please know that you can connect with us, in confidence.
CMG members can reach us directly via email at maggiemccaw@gmail.com and kam (at) cmg.ca.
As union members, we are here to support each other, especially as we affirm workplaces that commit – as VICE Canada does -to “not tolerate harassment, abusive behaviour, assault or retaliation.”
