Update on optional insurance plans at CBC

Members who participate in the optional, employee-paid Accident Death and Dismemberment plan will not be seeing any increase in their premiums for the next two years.  The Consultative Committee on Staff Benefits (CCSB) approved a two-year renewal with Great West Life that takes effect on April 1.

The rates we pay at the CBC continue to be lower than those paid for similar coverage at other employers.  The AD & D plan also includes Global Medical Assistance coverage. Over the years there have been surpluses in the fund, and when they have been large enough, we have been able to offer contribution holidays. That was the case in the past year.

CBC employees have an opportunity to review their optional insurance plans and sign up during the month of April.

At the latest meetings of the CCSB, we also continued discussions with the CBC on a variety of benefits issues, including fairer access to pension buy-backs for contract employees and providing access to survivor pension benefits for pensioners who marry after retirement.
