It’s that time of the year when we take a few moments to reflect on the past, and look forward to what lies ahead. All of us worked hard in 2013 to help The Canadian Press thrive, and survive, and we have much to be proud of in our accomplishments.

In a sense, it was a frustrating year for the Guild, as there were a few disagreements between members and management at CP.  And it seemed at times that dealing with problems moved at a snail’s pace.

Yet there is hope for the New Year. The Guild has been in discussions with CP management to talk about our unresolved differences, and see whether we can regain some of the culture of cooperation under which we operated so well together in the past.

And, finally, we were able to get our collective agreement booklets proofed, translated and printed. I would like to personally apologize for the long delay in having them produced, and thank everyone for their patience in waiting for the hard copies to arrive.

We have a lot for which to be thankful as this year comes to a close, and to look forward to in 2014. Many of our Guild colleagues have begun or expanded their families with the arrival of newborns, and I am grateful for their good health.

May you all have a wonderful holiday season, and I look forward to serving you in the New Year.
