Call for nominations: award for reporting that helps “right a wrong”

Did you write or produce a piece for print or broadcast in 2008 that helped address an injustice or right a wrong? If so, consider entering the competition for the Heywood Broun Award, which is given out each year by The Newspaper Guild/CWA.

Broun was a crusading columnist for the Tribune and the World in New York from 1912 until his death in 1939. He founded the American Newspaper Guild in 1933 and served as its first president. The annual competition is intended to encourage and recognize individual journalistic achievement by members of the working media. The main award is worth $5,000 and there are two $1,000 awards for entries of substantial distinction.

The deadline for submissions is January 30, 2009.
