You or someone you know can send in submissions for the 2017 Canadian Hillman Prize. The prestigious Hillman Awards honour excellence in journalism “in service of the common good”. The deadline for submissions is January 13, 2017. You can submit journalistic work published or broadcast in Canada in 2016.
Some highlights:
*The winner will be announced in March and be awarded travel to receive a $5,000 honorarium and certificate at a reception on March 30, 2017 in Toronto. The winner will also travel to New York City to participate in the U.S. Hillman Prize ceremony in May.
*There is no entry fee. A cover letter explaining why the entry meets the required criteria, and the nominated material, is all that must be submitted.
*This year’s entries will be judged by a distinguished Canadian panel: Tony Burman, formerly managing director of Al Jazeera English and chief news editor of CBC News; Bonnie Brown, television documentary producer and radio news producer at CBC for 17 years; and Armine Yalnizyan, senior economist at the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives.
