Thank you to all our members who remained strong on our picket lines throughout these eight weeks. Your resolve was a key factor in our fight for a better deal. We couldn’t have done it without you.
Your ability to help politicize the entire nation on our issues was truly amazing. Your newsletters, blogs, web sites and podcasts have set new standards of creative communication for future strikes and lockouts of union members across Canada.
You helped beat back the power grab that was aimed at flooding CBC with people on short-term contracts, with no access to health and pension benefits.
Our fight was Canada’s fight. Our collective success preserved public broadcasting for generations to come. The CBC is a national treasure and you protected it.
This fight brought us all together. We are no longer separated by clerical, editorial and technical lines. We are strong, and in the workplace we will be treated with the respect we deserve.
We have achieved a good contract, one that lasts until the end of March in 2009, but we won’t have labour peace in our daily working lives unless we insist on it. When we return to work we must enforce the new contract like never before.
Once again, thank you for all your support. This contract was achieved by all of us.
