Bargaining begins at Thomson Reuters

Your Bargaining Committee met with Amran Abocar and Joe Grierson from Thomson Reuters on Tuesday, March 31 to begin negotiating your new Collective Agreement. The previous agreement expired March 31.

Talks are very cordial and we have already agreed in principle to redesigning language around Paid Holidays, Dismissal and Severance, and how expenses are reimbursed, with an eye to improved clarity. We are also examining a proposal for a voluntary on-call premium for reporters regarding weekend work and are putting together language on how this premium would work.

The company assures us that the restructuring and workforce adjustment for the Canadian division of Thomson Reuters is complete for the foreseeable future; it’s hoping to add more positions in sales and client services in bureaus across the country.

Another day of negotiations is planned for Thursday, April 9 and we are hopeful we can come to a successful conclusion.
