Bargaining begins in earnest at AAC

Your Canadian Media Guild bargaining team met management’s representatives on September 13 and 14 to begin negotiations toward a first collective agreement.

Since our last meeting in early July, Rob VanSickle has left Alliance Atlantis Communications for a job at S-VOX. The branch executive has asked secretary-treasurer Michelle Smith to replace him on the Guild’s bargaining team.

The two sides put forward some initial proposals on a few relatively non-controversial items. One of the major goals of last week’s discussions was to allow both sides to get used to presenting and defending their proposals. We have given each other some homework to do before our next set of bargaining dates, which have been set for September 27-29. Negotiations have been scheduled approximately every other week until mid-December, at which time we will probably set additional dates for 2007.

We will keep you posted on how negotiations are proceeding. If you have questions about specific issues, please contact any member of the Guild’s team.
