The Canadian Media Guild received a “comprehensive offer” from CBC management as talks continued today. The Guild bargaining committee is reviewing the proposal and will provide analysis to our members as soon as possible.
The Guild has asked that provisions related to the hiring of new employees and to layoff and recall be separated from management’s latest proposal and negotiated independently. We hope to proceed immediately with discussions on these provisions, which are the most contentious issues yet to be resolved in the talks. The management proposal does not resolve the critical issues.
We applaud the tremendous success that CBC radio has experienced in audience numbers and note that this was achieved under the existing staffing model, which is based on the concept of permanent employment.
We will keep you updated on developments as they happen. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us (guild@interlog.com) at 416-591-5333 or 1-800-465-4149.
