CMG and CBC representatives on the National Joint Committee met May 3-7, along with facilitator/mediator Warren Edmondson, to discuss issues that have cropped up since the collective agreement went into effect last year. These discussions, which are to be held regularly, are meant to allow both sides to raise specific issues without necessarily having to wait until the next round of collective bargaining.
At this first meeting, the two sides talked mostly about the roles of News Directors and Managing Editors, as well as “Chefs, Services fran?ais” in French services. The Guild and CBC created a joint document that clarifies the relationship between editorial staff and CBC management.
Another meeting is set for the week of July 5, when the two sides plan to talk about how employees are assigned, particularly to Executive and Senior Producer roles.
