We met for two days this week with Shaw Media management. We have made a series of proposals, some to clarify existing language in the agreement, and some to create new provisions. Here some of the proposals we’ve made:
– Access to training and development to ensure members have opportunities to broaden their skills, enhance their job performance and support career development.
– Leave of absence without pay provisions, allowing a member to request a leave for personal reasons.
– Protection against contracting out work when it would cause layoffs in our bargaining unit
– Maternity/parental/adoption leave : right now, these leaves are covered in policy and not enshrined in the collective agreement.
We are scheduled to meet with management for two days next week, at which time we expect to discuss these proposals further. We have also requested some financial information from the company and anticipate discussing job classifications and monetary issues over the next couple of weeks.
