Pension restructuring and contract issues merge

Pension restructuring, regulatory issues and a new collective agreement at The Canadian Press all came together at the table this week. Bringing all of these multiple strands together is a complex task. While we all want this process to conclude as quickly as possible, it is no surprise to us that it is going to take longer than some earlier estimates.

No one should read anything negative into the fact that the process is dragging out. Many of the collective agreement issues between the Guild and The Canadian Press are close to resolution. However, in order to get the full pension relief we want and need, there are elements that must be worked through with the regulators (Finance and OSFI).

Talks resume Monday, August 30 and we expect they will continue through the next week.
