Progress in talks – end of Week One

Although the restructuring and pension remain our key focus, we have a collective agreement that has expired and has to be dealt with.

We spent this past week dealing with non-monetary issues that are somewhat less contentious. They include such things as family leave; religious holidays for non-Christians; averaging and Blackberry usage. We’ve agreed to try and clear away as much of these as possible during July.

We did touch briefly on the pension and restructuring, but those issues won’t be addressed until August.

We’ve set an aggressive bargaining schedule. Talks will resume next Monday, July 12 for another week, we’ll break during the week of July 19 and then start again on July 26.

Members can contact any of the bargaining team with questions. We’ll continue to keep you informed of developments.

Your bargaining committee:

Terry Pedwell, Canadian Press Branch President
Sylvia Strojek
Fareed Mohammed
Scott Edmonds, Pension Trustee
Craig Wong, Pension Trustee
Kathy Viner, CMG Staff Representative
