It is time to get ready for one of the most important things we do together as union members – renegotiate our collective agreement with the employer. The current CMG-CP contract expires in December 2024. We must prepare for the next round well in advance.
We are looking for up to four Guild members to form our bargaining committee. If you are interested, here’s what you need to know:
- Negotiations with management are expected to start in December 2024.
- Expenses and time off from work to attend negotiations are paid for all bargaining committee members.
- Training will be provided and no experience is needed; the most important thing is to have a commitment to your co-workers and the ability to think strategically.
- Participating on the committee requires full days, typically two or more at a time, over several weeks to negotiate an agreement. Some days will be in person.
We are looking for a balanced committee that is representative of the membership and that draws from the different areas of CP.
If you are interested in serving your colleagues in the upcoming negotiations, please write to us care of info@cmg.ca no later than Oct. 1, 2023 at 5 p.m. ET Please put “CP bargaining” in the subject line.
Our Branch executive will finalize the selection by mid-October. We expect to start to meet among ourselves at the end of October.
We hope to hear from you!
David Friend, President, CP Branch, Canadian Media Guild
Michel Saba, Vice-President, CP Branch
John Chidley Hill, Secretary-Treasurer, CP Branch
