Hey, I’m Jane Robertson from CBC PEI.
I’m putting my name forward for the Atlantic Director position on the CBC/Radio-Canada Branch Executive Council.
I would like to work together on raising issues from the Atlantic region for the betterment of all Canadian Media Guild members.
That includes pushing to make information about the union more accessible to the membership. Making it easier for people to get facts empowers them to be involved and engaged. From a basic understanding of who the CMG is all the way to our part in the larger labour movement ecosystem.
I was one of the CMG@CBC/RC bargaining committee members for the collective agreement that was ratified this year. I facilitated the creation of the majority of the slideshows used during town halls with facts and input from the rest of the committee. I helped create and edit videos for social media to try and reach more union members where they are online.
I am currently enrolled through the Labour College of Canada in an 18 month certificate course. This will broaden my understanding of the wider Canadian labour movement as a whole and the CMG’s place in it. The goal will be to bring back ideas, best practices and solidarity to help our union thrive.
I have been involved in union work for the majority of my 18 year career at CBC/RC. I began with the corporation in Iqaluit, NU, before heading to Edmonton, AB.
For the past 7 years I have been working out of Charlottetown, PEI.
I have worked a variety of positions including video producer, video journalist, videographer and associate producer. I have been in front and behind the camera, on the radio, written for the website and created content for online.
I will continue to support the union in whatever capacity I can. I hope you will be there by my side as we aim for better working conditions in the rapidly shifting media landscape.
So I ask that you get involved and vote. Even if it’s not for me, please vote — adding your voice to the conversation helps make the Union stronger.
Jane
