Under the Canadian Media Guild’s bylaws, proposed amendments to the bylaws must be received at the CMG office no later than 60 days prior to the convention, which is taking place in Toronto May 25-27. A total of two (2) amendments to CMG bylaws and three (3) general resolutions have been put forward as of the March 23 deadline.

Please read the proposals here.

Update: A fourth general resolution has been submitted, and you can read it here.

Branch bylaw amendments
For members in the CBC Branch: three (3) amendments to the branch bylaws and one (1) general resolution have been proposed. You can read them here. No other branch bylaw amendments or resolutions had been received as of deadline.

Update: Three CBC Branch general resolutions have been submitted, and you can read them here.

The deadline for bylaw amendment proposals has now passed, and only general resolutions can be submitted at this time.

General resolutions accepted until the convention
Resolutions will be accepted up until the convention, and can even be made from the convention floor. If you would like to direct the union to take a position on an issue or undertake a project, you can submit a resolution by filling out this CMG resolutions form. Resolutions received after deadline will be dealt with in the order received and only if time permits.

For any questions about resolutions or bylaws, please contact us at info@cmg.ca.

About  bylaw amendments and resolutions
A resolution passes at the convention if a simple majority (i.e., more than half of the delegates voting) votes in favour. Bylaw amendments must pass by a two-thirds majority.

Bylaw amendments and resolutions must not contravene the Constitution and Bylaws of CWA Canada or the Constitution of the Communications Workers of America (CWA), our wider union organizations.

While there is no deadline for proposing resolutions, any resolution submitted after May 1 may not be translated or included in the delegates’ convention package.
