{"id":22809,"date":"2012-12-04T17:47:15","date_gmt":"2012-12-04T22:47:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cmg.ca\/fr\/?p=22809"},"modified":"2012-12-04T17:47:15","modified_gmt":"2012-12-04T22:47:15","slug":"experience-ou-exploitation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cmg.ca\/fr\/blogues-et-infolettres\/experience-ou-exploitation\/","title":{"rendered":"Exp\u00e9rience ou exploitation ?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><i>Par Anqi Shen<\/i><\/p>\n<p><strong><i>Une conf\u00e9rence sur les stages ravive le d\u00e9bat sur les stages non r\u00e9mun\u00e9r\u00e9s<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Le secteur culturel, longtemps caract\u00e9ris\u00e9 par des conditions de travail pr\u00e9caires devient\u00a0encore plus dur pour ceux qui y oeuvrent, surtout les jeunes qui cherchent \u00e0 percer dans le domaine.Le 19 octobre dernier, \u00e9tudiants, praticiens, artistes et leaders syndicaux se sont r\u00e9unis \u00e0 Toronto pour parler de l\u2019injustice au travail dans le cadre de la conf\u00e9rence <i>Will Work for Exposure<\/i>\u00a0(pr\u00eat \u00e0 \u00eatre pay\u00e9 en visibilit\u00e9) \u00e0 l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Ryerson.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_22812\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-22812\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cmg.ca\/fr\/2012\/12\/04\/experience-ou-exploitation\/willwork4exposure-img_0012-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-22812\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-22812\" alt=\"Le conf\u00e9rencier d'honneur, Andrew Ross, professeur \u00e0 la New York University \" src=\"http:\/\/www.cmg.ca\/fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Willwork4exposure-IMG_0012-2-200x300.jpg\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-22812\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Le conf\u00e9rencier d&rsquo;honneur, Andrew Ross, professeur \u00e0 la New York University<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Organis\u00e9e par le <i>Centre for Labour Management Relations<\/i> de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Ryerson en collaboration avec des membres de la Guilde canadienne des m\u00e9dias et d\u2019ACTRA, la conf\u00e9rence a trait\u00e9 de divers sujets comme le vol des salaires, le droit d\u2019auteur et les droits des travailleurs.<\/p>\n<p>Le rencontre offrait \u00e9galement un cadre pour discuter publiquement des stages non r\u00e9mun\u00e9r\u00e9s, une premi\u00e8re au pays d\u2019apr\u00e8s l\u2019organisatrice Nicole Cohen. L\u2019ancienne r\u00e9dactrice en chef du magazine Ch\u00e2telaine, Kim Pittaway, qui a enseign\u00e9 en \u00e0 l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Ryerson et \u00e0 l\u2019Universit\u00e9 King\u2019s College, a rappel\u00e9 qu\u2019il est plus difficile aujourd\u2019hui de d\u00e9crocher un premier emploi comme journaliste que lorsqu\u2019elle faisait ses d\u00e9buts dans le domaine.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0Une fois que je travaillais pour un employeur, j\u2019\u00e9tais pay\u00e9e en salaire r\u00e9el, ce qui n\u2019est pas le cas aujourd\u2019hui pour les \u00e9tudiants que j\u2019ai enseign\u00e9s, explique Mme Pittaway.\u00a0 La plupart ne sont jug\u00e9s pr\u00eats \u00e0 l\u2019embauche qu\u2019une fois qu\u2019ils ont termin\u00e9 non pas une, mais plusieurs stages non r\u00e9mun\u00e9r\u00e9s de suite.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>D\u2019apr\u00e8s Mme Pittaway, les \u00e9tudiants devraient surtout se m\u00e9fier du travail sans r\u00e9mun\u00e9ration pour les organisations \u00e0 but lucratif.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0C\u2019est un s\u00e9rieux probl\u00e8me quand des organisations qui g\u00e9n\u00e8rent des profits exploitent les jeunes travailleurs, d\u00e9clare-t-elle. Nombre de jeunes journalistes sont surpris et reconnaissants quand on les paie, et ils sous-estiment leur propre travail.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>C\u2019est une analyse qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 confirm\u00e9e par d\u2019autres intervenants \u00e0 la conf\u00e9rence, notamment Agata Zieba, une ancienne \u00e9tudiante en journalisme qui a relat\u00e9 sa propre exp\u00e9rience quand elle travaillait sans r\u00e9mun\u00e9ration \u00e0 plein temps pour diverses publications.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0J\u2019ai tout fait, du travail administratif \u00e0 la r\u00e9daction d\u2019articles en ligne en passant par la v\u00e9rification des faits. Chaque jour, je me poussais \u00e0 travailler encore plus fort, et de plus longues heures que ce que l\u2019on me demandait, afin qu\u2019on ne m\u2019oublie pas une fois que le prochain lot de stagiaires aura \u00e9t\u00e9 engag\u00e9 pour me remplacer dans quatre mois ou six semaines.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>Mme Zabia pr\u00e9cise qu\u2019elle avait l\u2019impression d\u2019obtenir une excellente exp\u00e9rience, mais avoue qu\u2019elle ne cessait de se demander\u00a0: \u00ab Pourquoi est-ce que je travaille gratuitement\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>Edward Keenan, r\u00e9dacteur principal \u00e0 l\u2019hebdomadaire torontois, <i>The Grid<\/i> a \u00e9galement donn\u00e9 son avis en tant qu\u2019un ancien sans r\u00e9mun\u00e9ration et comme directeur d\u2019un programme de stage.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab Je ne pense pas que je serais journaliste aujourd\u2019hui si les stages non r\u00e9mun\u00e9r\u00e9s n\u2019existaient pas, a-t-il indiqu\u00e9.\u00a0 J\u2019\u00e9tais en concurrence avec trop de gens bien plus qualifi\u00e9s que moi, du moins en th\u00e9orie.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>Au sujet des stages \u00e0 l\u2019hebdomadaire <i>The Grid<\/i>, anciennement <i>Eye Weekly<\/i>, M. Keenan a indiqu\u00e9 que si ces stages \u00e9taient pay\u00e9s, il y aurait eu des milliers de journalistes en plein milieu de carri\u00e8re \u00e0 Toronto qui n\u2019auraient pas h\u00e9sit\u00e9 \u00e0 occuper ces postes.<\/p>\n<p>Il a rappel\u00e9 qu\u2019il y a une offre exc\u00e9dentaire de travailleurs dans le domaine par rapport aux emplois disponibles.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0On ne se lance pas dans le secteur culturel parce qu\u2019on a extr\u00eamement besoin de nourrir sa famille, a expliqu\u00e9 M. Keenan. Ce ne sont pas les circonstances qui nous obligent \u00e0 travailler dans ce domaine\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>Si c\u2019est le cas, il faut\u00a0se demander pourquoi beaucoup de jeunes gens ne tournent pas le dos au secteur\u00a0de la culture ?<\/p>\n<p>Selon le conf\u00e9rencier d\u2019honneur \u00e0 <i>Will work for exposure<\/i>, Andrew Ross,\u00a0 professeur d\u2019analyse sociale et culturelle \u00e0 la New York University, la r\u00e9ponse r\u00e9side dans le mod\u00e8le\u00a0 de la t\u00e9l\u00e9r\u00e9alit\u00e9<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0Le travail culturel est plus gratifiant, a-t-il expliqu\u00e9 dans son allocution.\u00a0 Les gens sont attir\u00e9s par le c\u00f4t\u00e9 concours.\u00a0\u00bb\u00a0 M. Ross a parl\u00e9 de taux plus \u00e9lev\u00e9s de travail gratuit suite \u00e0 la crise financi\u00e8re de 2008, soutenant par ailleurs que la dette \u00e9tudiante \u00e9tait l\u2019un des facteurs contribuant \u00e0 un march\u00e9 du travail de plus en plus in\u00e9quitable. \u00ab\u00a0La dette est une condition d\u2019entr\u00e9e sur le march\u00e9 du travail pour la majorit\u00e9 des gens \u00bb,\u00a0a-t-il expliqu\u00e9 d\u00e9crivant la situation comme une forme actuelle de servitude f\u00e9odale.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0Si les \u00e9tudiants ont suffisamment de chance pour trouver du travail r\u00e9mun\u00e9r\u00e9, une grande partie de leur salaire va de plus en plus au remboursement de dettes qu\u2019ils ont contract\u00e9es simplement pour se pr\u00e9parer \u00e0 \u00eatre aptes \u00e0 l\u2019embauche.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>Derni\u00e8rement, la question de savoir si les stages non r\u00e9mun\u00e9r\u00e9s constituent une forme d\u2019exploitation est de plus en plus \u00e0 l\u2019ordre du jour tant au Canada qu\u2019aux \u00c9tats-Unis.<\/p>\n<p>Bon nombre d\u2019intervenants soulignent \u00e9galement que ce type d\u2019emplois r\u00e9duisent l\u2019acc\u00e8s au secteur culturel, car ils favorisent ceux qui peuvent se permettre de travailler sans r\u00e9mun\u00e9ration.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c0 l\u2019heure actuelle, les stages non r\u00e9mun\u00e9r\u00e9s ne sont pas r\u00e9glement\u00e9s au Canada, et selon plusieurs conf\u00e9renciers, on dispose de peu de donn\u00e9es statistiques sur ce ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab Il ne se fait pas beaucoup de recherches sur le sujet, a expliqu\u00e9 Andrew Langille, un avoct \u00e9tabli \u00e0 Toronto qui blogue pour le site <i>Youth and Work<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>M. Langille a ajout\u00e9 que les stages non r\u00e9mun\u00e9r\u00e9s concernent non seulement les jeunes travailleurs, mais \u00e9galement les nouveaux immigrants, les travailleurs dans la vingtaine et la trentaine, et les travailleurs plus chevronn\u00e9s en plein changement de carri\u00e8re.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0Il est tr\u00e8s difficile pour les gouvernements et les universitaires comme moi de parler de mani\u00e8re utile a ce sujet sans conna\u00eetre l\u2019ampleur du probl\u00e8me, a-t-il soulign\u00e9, concluant que la collecte de donn\u00e9es serait un bon d\u00e9but.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>(Le syndicat principal de la Guilde, CWA\/SCA Canada a pay\u00e9 les droits de publication pour cet article.
