“Austerity and the Decline of the Collective” – Arnold Amber Memorial Lecture

Our union is sponsoring an event this week in Toronto, and you are welcome to attend.

The 2nd Annual Arnold Amber Memorial Lecture, sponsored by CWA Canada – The Media Union, honours Arnold Amber’s accomplishments and contributions as a long time advocate of the just and fair.

Alex Himelfarb will be giving a keynote address on “Austerity and the Decline of the Collective”, exploring the past 40 years of tax cuts, privatization, deregulation and the resulting social, political and cultural consequences.

Arnold Amber was a long-time CMG member, a President of the CBC/Radio-Canada Branch, and the first president of CWA Canada, the country’s only all-media union.

Alex Himelfarb has held a succession of senior positions with the federal government over 28 years, culminating in his appointment as Clerk of the Privy Council and Secretary to the Cabinet — the most senior public servant in the federal government.

CWA Canada President, Martin O’Hanlon, and Peggy Nash will also share remarks.

If you are available this upcoming Wednesday evening, please consider joining us there!
