Happy New Year!
Negotiations continue between the Canadian Media Guild (CMG) and the CBC as we seek a deal before the current Collective Agreement expires on March 31, 2024.
After a bit of a break over the holidays, we have returned refreshed, and are hard at work at getting a fair and equitable deal.
This week we were able to close out some of our conversations on: Equity, Diversity, Accessibility and Inclusion, Disability Management, and Temporary workers. We are in deep discussion about staff who work in Technology and Infrastructure(T&I). This focuses on those who were part of the Maintenance & IT Compensation Review, as well as the small group of T&I employees who have been excluded from a consecutive 5 day work week.
In our next week of negotiations (Feb. 5-9/24), we will be addressing issues like technological change (Workday, AI, etc), Pay Equity and compensation. We also will be addressing the largest issue that has been put forward by the members which was an equitable wage increase in the face of rising cost of living.
We have a scheduled Town hall on Wednesday Jan. 31 at 19:00 EST to update members and seek information for the upcoming two weeks of bargaining.
A reminder for members in our northern regions to fill in the CMG medical travel questionnaire before January 31. This will help immensely when the issue arises in later weeks of bargaining.
Many in the CMG leadership team are keeping a close eye as the corporation moves forward with layoffs after the announcement of hundreds of cuts across the country. Information will come forth as needed but a FAQ section has been added to the CMG Website.
