CP bargaining update: Still Waiting…

It’s been nearly 11 months since The Canadian Press and your Guild’s bargaining committee mutually agreed to temporarily halt negotiations due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

And while the Guild has been ready to commence another round of talks for many months, we’re sad to say, little progress has been made.

At the Guild’s initiative, we exchanged proposals in late December and early this month, but so far the Company has been unwilling to meet with the full bargaining committee.

Despite our repeated requests, the Company has failed to provide meaningful financial evidence to justify the deep concessions they’re seeking from you.

We have made it clear we cannot discuss critical monetary issues tied to your future until we have complete disclosure from the Company. If they do not voluntarily provide it, we plan to take steps to compel more transparency from them.

We want to work with and help build CP, but this cannot be a one-sided negotiation.

Given the unprecedented times we’re in, we know the clock is ticking on your patience.

Expect to hear soon about location unit meetings to discuss in more detail where we are, and where we want to be going.

Your solidarity is much appreciated.
