Canadian Media Guild seeks a Staff Representative in Toronto

The Canadian Media Guild has an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to make a difference in both the union and media worlds.   We are seeking an energetic and self-motivated Staff Representative  who will be based in our Toronto  office and serve members across the country

The Guild represents 6,000 members across Canada, including employees at CBC, The Canadian Press, Thomson Reuters and the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network, TVO, tfo, Shaw Media, Zoomer TV, AFP, Private Radio,  as well as media freelancers. Find out more at www.cmg.ca.

The successful candidate will work as part of a team, providing support for CMG executives, mobilizing and engaging members, identifying and assisting on organizing opportunities, dealing with management, leading bargaining, helping develop  education programs, and mentoring volunteers.  We are looking for a leader who works well in a team. 

Experience in administering collective agreements and providing contractual support to members is required, as is knowledge of trade unionism, the Canada Labour Code, Human Rights Legislation and bargaining.  He/she must be committed to the ideals of the labour movement. Candidates must be bilingual.  Knowledge of the media industry is also an asset.

Wages and benefits are set according to the provisions of the Canadian Media Guild Employees Union/CMG collective agreement (available online). Salary ranges from $88,000 to $99,000 with additional pay for French language proficiency and in lieu of pension and benefits.
