Guild troubled by secret federal cabinet meeting

The Canadian Media Guild is concerned by the federal government’s efforts to reduce access by reporters to cabinet ministers and decision-making. A cabinet meeting was held this week on Parliament Hill with no prior notice.

“What the Harper government is doing is very troubling,” says Lise Lareau, national Guild president. “A free flow of information in Ottawa is not only important to the daily working lives of our members who report from the Hill, it’s the lifeblood of democracy in Canada.”

The Guild joins other organizations in Canada in calling for a lifting of media restrictions on Parliament Hill.
