In case you missed it, here’s how CBC ombudsman Kirk LaPointe responded to complaints last fall about Kevin O’Leary’s on-air comments about unions. Viewer Lisa Card, as well as the National Union of Public and General Employees, the Ontario Public Service Employees Union and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers, complained that the statements, including “unions themselves are born of evil, they must be destroyed with evil,” were “offensive, disturbing and irresponsible.” LaPointe allowed that the “choice of words could have been better” but ruled that O’Leary’s comments did not violate CBC policy.
