On Monday, September 3, Canadian Media Guild (CMG) members joined fellow union members in Toronto to mark Labour Day, celebrating our movement’s achievements and acknowledging how much remains to be done.
Our goals include decent pay, quality jobs, and fairness at work. And we continue to build on CMG’s convention theme: “Our union, our voice.”
In that connection, CMG members expressed concerns about the ongoing lockout of fellow union members, members of IATSE Local 58.
In recognition of the ongoing lockout of fellow union members, members of IATSE Local 58, CMG’s National Executive Committee (NEC) decided that this year we would not be purchasing CNE meal and ride tickets for distribution among CMG parade participants, as we have done previously. Rather, a comparable amount will be donated to the Daily Bread Food Bank instead.
Further, CMG’s NEC encouraged CMG members who may have thought of attending the CNE over the long weekend to consider not attending, in order to not cross the IATSE picket lines, either in a personal or union capacity.
