Sun Media, the Quebecor-owned company announced today that it is cutting 360 jobs and closing 11 publications. This is in addition to the 500 jobs that the company cut in November.
Our colleagues at CWA Canada represent workers at nine Sun Media papers: Kingston, Sault St. Marie, North Bay, Sudbury, Peterborough, Cobourg, Port Hope, Brantford and Saint Catharines.
Martin O’Hanlon, CWA Canada Director urged the company to pursue a winning strategy by focusing on quality local jobs and journalism to boost profits.
“I’m still waiting for someone to show me how you produce better journalism with fewer journalists. To suggest it’s possible is either delusional or dishonest — neither bodes well for Sun Media’s fortunes,” O’Hanlon said.
