As you’re getting ready to do your tax return for 2009, remember that union dues are deductible from your taxable income.

Check the amount in Box 44 of your T4 slip (in Qu?bec, look for Box F on your RL-1 slip) and transcribe the amount onto your tax return.

This is also the ideal time to double-check that you haven’t paid too much in dues. Sometimes we discover that employers haven’t applied the Guild’s annual dues cap. If you paid more than $1500 in CMG dues in the 2009 calendar year, please contact your employer as well as the Guild office.
