Tell Ottawa not to cut off small-town Canada’s free TV service

The Canadian Media Guild and Openmedia.ca have launched a campaign to get the CRTC and broadcasters to change their plans to cut off free local TV signals for 11 million Canadians living in smaller cities and rural areas.

Please sign your name to a letter to the CRTC.

In 2011, the country’s broadcasters are expected to complete their transition to digital. They plan to continue sending out free signals in the country’s major cities but to simply shut down transmitters in hundreds of communities.

The Guild has presented research to the CRTC and to broadcasters on how they could use the new digital technology to improve TV service in smaller communities by sharing transmitters. We urge the CRTC, broadcasters and the government to work together to make this happen.
