TFO management turns down CMG offer to extend the collective agreement

Several days ago the Canadian Media Guild proposed a one-year extension of the existing collective agreement between the Guild and TFO, in return for a reasonable salary increase.

As you may know, the existing collective agreement expired in October 2007. The last time TFO employees had a salary increase was in October 2006. Given that TFO management had indicated its preference to not start bargaining until the fall, we proposed this one-year extension to help ensure that employees don’t wind up falling too far behind in terms of salary, particularly compared to their English-speaking colleagues at TVO.

Management appears to have changed its mind. They turned down the extension proposal and instead are putting forward negotiating dates for the summer ? when negotiating committee members will be on their annual forced unpaid leave. In any event, we plan to meet management to begin talks and start negotiating a new collective agreement.

For more information please contact a member of the negotiating team or write to the CMG office at [email protected].
