Union disappointed by hockey decision

Canada’s only all-media union is as baffled as hockey fans at the decision to hire American media workers to work on NHL games in Toronto.

The NHL and NBC’s plan to bring in NBC staff to record the games instead of hiring Canadian freelancers is unnecessary given the talent available Canada.

The well paying jobs are coveted in the industry, and the decision is disappointing at a time when the pandemic has devastated the economy, including Canada’s media industry.

It’s an unexpected hit to many media workers; these  jobs could be supporting Canadian families. We are calling on those responsible to reconsider.
